Why did Hastings Borough Council leave bollards to deteriorate

The team of volunteers who, by painting the bollards in Hastings’ George Street and thus demonstrating their civic pride in a highly visible way, are due a very big ‘thank you’ from the town’s residents.

However, perhaps someone sitting on the borough council can explain why it hasn’t carried out this work for at least 15 years?

This is the main thoroughfare through the Old Town and is probably visited by almost every one of the hundreds of thousands of visitors that the town entertains each year, and it needs to be kept in pristine condition if it is to continue to do so in the years to come.

The town’s councillors need to constantly remind themselves that tourists contribute at least £250 million annually to the local economy and support over 5,000 jobs and, without them, its finances would be absolutely hammered.

So, it’s an A* for the volunteers but a U – ungraded- for HBC, as it has clearly failed to reach the standard required by its taxpayers.
