CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX APPEAL: Can you give strangers - a family or elderly person - a Christmas gift this year?At Christmas, the Charity, Link to Hope organise the collection of Shoeboxes filled with gifts for very poor families and elderly people living alone in Romania, Moldova, Albania, Bulgaria and the Ukraine. These people live in terrible conditions often with no electricity or running water. These gifts are everyday items such as soap, toothpaste, shampoo, combs, socks, crayons and colouring books etc. Your gift of a shoebox would bring such happiness to the people who receive them. This year the Charity are also supporting Syrian refugees living in Bulgaria. To support the Link to Hope shoebox appeal this year please contact Sue Cavilla Tel: 230431. Special thanks to Peasmarsh School who are already supporting this Charity. Please telephone Sue to arrange collection if required. Shoeboxes need to be ready by Sunday October 26.

PEASMARSH GOLD MEDAL: The Farley family would like to thank all those who helped with the funding for Thomas Farley to compete in Judo at the European Games in Antwerp, Belgium. The investment paid off, as Thomas brought home a gold medal for Great Britain. Thomas has immediately resumed his training, alongside his younger brother Harry, as they both now prepare for the World Games in Los Angeles in July/August, 2015, both in the sport of Judo. We still have to obtain further funding, but contributions so far have been a great help. The event in Antwerp was a good taste of things to come, both in competition conditions and competitors, but also the whole atmosphere, which included wonderful Opening and Closing Ceremonies. A big thank you must go to Coach Paul Everest, who saw Thomas get his Gold alongside Westerleigh Judokwai team mate, Holly Tadman, who also brought home a Gold Medal. Paul will be coaching Thomas and Harry for the World Games, too, and had trained their older brother James, who won Gold Medal at the World Games in Dublin in 2003. The Farley boys obviously have a shared talent in Judo, but they are brought to their full potential by a great Coach! So, Peasmarsh previously boasted a World Judo champion with James and now a European Champion with Thomas. Let’s hope the two younger brothers can match their older brother and also become World Champions next year! Thanks again Peasmarsh for your support! Any future donations for their costs can be made to : - Farley Lodge, Sunnybank, Peasmarsh; phone 01797 230970
