A fire which has destroyed the roof and first floor of a home in Billingshurst has finally been extinguished.

The blaze at the end of terrace house in The Alders raged for more than two and a half hours after starting at around 4.45pm today, Monday, August 15.

Six appliances, as well as officers and support appliances, were deployed and the fire was eventually put out shortly before 7.30pm.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said that the roof and first floor of the property had been ‘100 per cent damaged by fire’, with the ground floor ‘75 per cent damaged’.

Smoke has affected the rest of the building, and a second property has seen slight damage to it from smoke and water.

There are no reports of any injuries, the spokeswoman added.

Fire investigation officers remained on the scene after 8pm.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
