Lift off for Cranleigh with opening day victory
Cranes set the pace early on and scored the game’s opening try when their ever-improving lineout set up a catch and drive maul for Jake Shayler to cross the line. The momentum though swung and Stretham scored twice before half time, though a Curtis Beacroft penalty cut the visitors’ lead to 12-8 at the break.
Bot sides continued to cancel each other out at the resumption, Aaron Beacroft and Mark Brett with some crucial tackles, before Pete Barraud finished off a patient team move to put Cranleigh ahead, Beacroft with the conversion.
