Ready for Glastonbury
A LUCKY band is set to play at this year's Glastonbury festival.
Paul Holliby, from Copthorne, Matt Robbins from Furnace Green, Dan Defeo from Broadfield and Mark Wyburn from London have played just three gigs since they formed the band Killing Cupid six months ago.
Yet they find themselves at one of the biggest music festivals in Europe and in the UK division final of a European battle of the bands competition called Emergenza.
Bass player Matt Robbins said: "We really can't believe it. We have only played three gigs together in six months and they have all been in the Emergenza competition which we finished top of in each round.
"You always dream of making it but we are just trying to do our best and it often depends on who you know.
"A place called Surrey Strings managed to get us into Glastonbur y, but the stage we are playing on hasn't been decided yet and it will be for unsigned acts."
Last Tuesday Killing Cupid got top marks from a group of panellists at Camden's Dingwalls venue in the semi-finals of Emergenza.
If the lads qualify from the final of the UK division they will have an all expenses trip to Germany where they will compete in the European
final.
Matt added: "We play alternative rock, but we are really into emotional bands like Sigur Ros, and we have a bit of heavy stuff in there too.
"I think that's why we are doing so well because it's a bit different to some of the other stuff around at the moment.
"We have an electronic violinist called Mark which adds a bit of a different dimension to the band.
"Originally we started with six people but we got this down to four and made everything really tight.
"My Space has played a big factor. People say they like your music and that's actually how we found Mark."
Killing Cupid will play the final of the UK division of Emergenza on June 14 and awaiting to hear if they can play the Isle of Wight festival
after registering on their website.
