About Crawley
  • Located half-way between London and the Sussex coast, Crawley is a thriving multi-cultural town with a population of almost 100,000. Originally a sleepy backwater, the opening of Gatwick airport in 1930 sparked massive growth in the region. This was compounded in 1947 when Crawley was designated a New Town - one of eight new towns around London created from scratch with the aim of getting people to move from the over-crowded capital into the countryside.
